Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area
Highlights Of
2009
Park Improvements:
*The handicapped accessible fishing pier project was
completed, along with adjacent new parking area.
*The roofs on the east shelter house and the entrance station
got new shingles, funded by the DNR.
*Restrooms were scrubbed and painted, and had new screens
installed.
*Weeds were removed from the volleyball court and new sand
applied.
*800 northern pike fingerlings were stocked in Beckman Lake
by the DNR Fisheries Division.
*Special hunting seasons and permits were
eliminated.
*Stumps and brush were removed from the Zander’s Lake
dike.
*The beach was well maintained.
*Volunteers mowed the grass, picked up trash, cut weeds and
brush, and rescued birds caught in fishing line.
Promotion and Fund Raising:
*This web site was set up for Friends of Cadiz Springs by
Adam Bansley of Ideate Ink!!
*A booth was set up to promote the park at the Monroe Balloon
Rally and at Browntown Day.
*A Volunteer Appreciation Picnic was held in
September.
*A spaghetti supper was held in
April
*We had our first 5K Trail Run in the park.
2009 attendance in the park:
61,378 visitors, up 31% from 2008
2009 DNR revenue:
$24,330, up 10% from 2008

more than $3700
Total hours donated by volunteers in 2009:
more than 500 hours

Looking Ahead to 2010 and
Beyond
--We plan to continue to raise funds for new playground
equipment.
–New signs have been completed for the nature trail, and
could be installed some time this year. (DNR
project)
–We’re working on getting beverage machines in the
park.
–We hope to have volunteers trained to man the park
office.
–We’d like to continue working on cutting weeds in the beach
and boat launch areas.
Wish List:
–A mesh walkway could be installed that would make the west
shelter house and the beach wheelchair accessible.
–A ceiling in the east shelter would keep birds from nesting
in the rafters.
–Miscellaneous electrical repairs.
–Rebuild the boardwalk on the north side of Zander’s
Lake.
–The trail system could be redesigned and
maintained.
–Replace the footbridge over Zander’s Creek with one wide
enough for the mowers to cross.
–Additional disabled parking areas.
–Fishing shelters on dikes.
